Q : Do I need to have prior experience.
A : Currently we are only taking new members with Square Dance, Folk or Contra Dancing experience. This may change in the future. Check the link to other clubs on the bottom of the contact page or e-mail me for details.
Q : Do I need a partner ?
A : Yes you do need a partner. Why not encourage a friend. If you're on your own please contact me. We may be able to find you a partner. All you need is somebody to come on the floor with you. As the dance progresses you will be changing partners anyway. Please note barn dancing is not line dancing which is a completely different activity for solo dancers.
Q : What sort of music is it. ?
A : Although the tradition is American country music all sorts of music is used from pop to music hall, novelty & comic.
Q : How often does the club meet and where ?
A : Every Wednesday night 7.30pm till 10.15pm. Club night is held at the Baptist Leisure Hall, Chapel Lane, Blisworth NN7 3 BU.
A : There is a weekly fee to cover the cost of the hall and and other expenses. The fee is 3.00 per week. The first two weeks are FREE so what have got to lose ?
Q : Is there a bar or can I bring alcohol ?
A : Dancers don't drink on club nights because it makes remembering the moves too difficu the dancing lt. Anyway you'll be too busy dancing ! However they are not necessarily tee-total and like a social drink AFTER it has finish.
Q : I have two left feet
A : Fancy footwork is not necessary, unless you want too.
If you can walk you can American barn dance!!
Q : Do I have to come every week ?
A : In order that everybody progress at the same speed, regular attendance is preferred but I do accept that other commitments may occasionally mean people will miss a week and of course we all get sick and have holidays.
Q : Do I need special footwear and what do I wear ?
A : Any comfortable shoes will do but footwear that slides a bit is better then rubber soled trainers. This is true of all types of dancing. Men should wear long sleeve shirts and trousers/jeans. If you want to dress western style you can but most people reserve that for party nights. Please do not wear western hats as they can interfere with some dance moves. It is preferred that ladies wear knee to calf length dresses or skirts with some movement in them. This helps the caller to decide which sex everybody is at a glance and gives the dancing more flourish. However girls if you really hate wearing skirts you will not be turned away.
Q : Is there an an age limit.?
A : Barn dancing is for any age. The caller will adjust according to who is on the floor but the fitter and more alert you are the faster and more fun the dancing can be.
I hope that clears up some of your questions.
